About Jackson Chapter No. 6

In August of 1843, Deputy General Grand High Priest Joseph K. Stapleton issued a dispensation on behalf of the General Grand Chapter for a Royal Arch Chapter to be formed at Jackson, Mississippi. The Chapter was duly formed and the officers constitutionally installed and Jackson Chapter U.D. worked until September 13, 1844, where it received a formal Charter from the General Grand Chapter. It was the custom of the day to NOT assign a Chapter a numerical designation.

During that period, there was no Grand Chapter at a state level so Jackson Chapter, along with others Chapters throughout the State operated under the direct supervision of the General Grand Chapter. That would not prove to last long, for on May 18, 1846, the several Chapters located throughout Mississippi met in convention and formed the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons in Mississippi. Jackson Chapter then surrendered its Charter to the General Grand Chapter and was re-chartered as Jackson Chapter No. 6 on January 13, 1847.
